Hobby Week Cocktail Workshop in association with Brigge

As part of Brigge App Hobby Week, I attended Mix and Learn – Cocktail Workshop  hosted by famous mixologist, Beverage Conversant and Consultant Balakrishnan Subramanyan at Gulpers Galore and Vgulp.

The venue was at g77 Cafe, Indira Nagar, Bengaluru on 30th August. We learned how to pep up our parties at home by getting a hands on experience of preparing easy mocktails and cocktails by watching Mr. Bala at it’s best. There was no entry fee and one has to pay for his or her drink if consuming other than those prepared during the workshop. One get a wonderful chance to attend this much in demand workshop by Mr. Bala, as well as have a sip of the drinks prepared by him and enjoy to the core. Here I have to mention about Anthony Wilson, much loved head mixologist of g77 cafe who enthrall the audience with his bartending skill’s while preparing the mocktails.

Here is the Recipe of Cocktails which Mr. Bala prepared for us in the most lucid manner following which a novice can also learn and try out at his or her home.
1) Cosmopolitan
60 ml Vodka
60 ml Cranberry Juice
10 ml Triple Sec
10 ml Lime Juice
Shake  with ice, strain into a martini glass and  garnish with an orange peel.

2) Daiquiri- Classic rum cocktail that was invented in 1902
60 ml of rum
15 ml of sugar syrup
15 ml of lime juice.
Shaken with ice and served in a straight glass with ice and garnished with a lime wheel.

 3) Mai Tai- An improvised recipe
Shake 45 ml of white rum
10 ml lime juice
60 ml of orange juice
30 ml of pineapple juice
10 ml of  Orgeat (almond) syrup
Strain into an old fashioned glass with ice.
Float 30 ml of dark rum on top and Garnish with an orange slice.

4) Mint cucumber spitzer
Muddle 7-8 mint leaves
4-5 cucumber chunks
 2 lime wedges.
Add 60 ml of gin and 10 ml of Brine and shake well.
Strain contents into a tall glass filled with ice.
Top with sprite and serve.

5) Whisky Old Fashioned
In a tin, add 1 cube of sugar
pour a few good dashes of angostura aromatic bitters
a splash of hot water and muddle till the sugar is dissolved.
Add ice and 30 ml of whisky, stir well.
Add more ice and 30 ml of whisky, stir well and strain into a whisky (old fashioned) glass with a few cubes of ice.
Garnish with an orange twist and a cherry.

Recipe of Pink Pong Mocktail ( By Anthony Wilson)
cranberry Juice 30ml
raspberry, jam 2 bar spoon
fresh pomegranate juice 60 ml
lime juice 15ml
Mix cranberry juice with sugar and honey for 5 minutes on 62’c. Mix with the rest ingredients and shake vigorously. Pour into a glass and garnish with an orange slice.

Dark Dreams Cocktail ( by Anthony Wilson)
It’s a concoction of whisky, Kahlua and coffee mixed with burnt tobacco and applewood.
It’s served on a wooden platter with molecular spheres of the same drink that you have to pick with your fingers and gulp at once.

Some of us were felt pumped up and decided to share the bar with Mr. Bala and recreate the cocktails with minimal help from him.

It was a great learning experience. I am expecting more such types of mocktail and cocktail workshop where one can have immense learning about drink’s. Say Cheers !
